Michael Bublé – Christmas Album
Released in October 2011, Canadian crooner Michael Bublé’s aptly named “Christmas” is sure to be playing around the world this holiday season. The artist’s fifth studio album reached at #2 on Billboard’s Hot 200 chart after just three weeks, and features a number of new hits in the celebration of “the most wonderful time of the year.”
Die-hard Bublé fans might find some of the songs on “Christmas” familiar. In 2003, the artist recorded a Christmas-themed EP dubbed “Let It Snow.” Though the promotional album didn’t sell as well as most of his others, Bublé didn’t let the tracks go to waste. Many of the songs from this lesser known release have been re-recorded for this new album!
“Christmas” also features a number of duets with other well-known singers and songwriters. Country superstar Shania Twain teamed up with Bublé to sing “White Christmas,” and Latin singer Thalía is featured on a new recording of “Feliz Navidad.” Vocal trio The Puppini Sisters also make an appearance in the classic “Jingle Bells.”
Bublé includes his own renditions of various Christmas classics as well. His covers of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and Elvis Presley’s famous “Blue Christmas” are sure to be hits.
Another highlight includes an interesting twist on “Santa Baby,” a tongue-in-cheek look at Christmas wish lists traditionally sung by a female vocalist! Putting his own spin on the song, Bublé sings “I’ll wait up for you, dude” and asks for “connex tickets” and “cha-ching” rather than the original lyrics of “dear,” “a duplex,” and “a ring.”
Classical music fans will appreciate a wonderful rentition of the world-famous Bach aria “Ave Maria.” Though not much of a classical singer, Bublé’s jazzy, modern take on the piece is refreshing, and provides yet another original take on an old favorite.
To top it all off, “Christmas” features a brand new track, “Cold December Night,” written by Michael Bublé himself, along with his his longtime co-writer Alan Chang and producer Bob Rock. Providing somewhat of a contrast to popular Christmas songs like “Santa Baby,” the lyrics simply ask “fall in love with me, this Christmas.”
With just the right balance of traditional tunes and enticing twists, this album is poised to become a new Christmas classic. Whether you’re a Michael Bublé fan or simply love a good carol, this joyful album is sure to get you in the spirit of the season.
